The Parker family traveled west from their home in Missouri to Oregon in 1844 . They suffered great losses along the way and settled a land claim along the Columbia river in Washington. They built a boat landing which was later known as Parker's Landing. This homestead is the site of the first permanent American settlement on the north shore of the Columbia River and later became the site of Parker's Landing Historical park. A merging of the surrounding area’s woolen mills led to the formation of the only woolen mill in the state of Washington.
