ABOUT THE AREA
Copake means "snake pond" in Native American, once referring to Copake Lake located in the town limits. Other communities and hamlets within Copake are Copake Falls, Craryville, Taconic Shores, Weedmines, and West Copake. The Taconic / Copake Falls State Park and Copake Iron Works are also within the Town. Copake borders Massachusetts to the west and Dutchess County to the south. Henry Astor once had a home here.
