You might think that a name like Sedro Woolley has some strange origin. The city was formed from the merging of the nearby towns of Sedro and Woolley. Sedro is a distortion of the Spanish word for cedar; picked as name of the town by its first settler. Woolley, the founder of the town just north of Sedro, named the town for himself. Downtown Sedro-Woolley has an unusual look punctuated by painted murals pictured on buildings in the area. The brick buildings fronted with comfortable wood benches beneath old-fashion light poles are reminescent of a 19th century city.
