The County Court lies near State Road 20 and also serves as the Municipal Court for the City of Port Townsend.

Port Townsend lies at the extreme Northeast part of Jefferson county on Puget Sound. Te Klallam Indians' lands encompassed the future city in 1851 when non-Indians began settling there. In the 1800's Port Townsend was a well-known seaport. But until the rail lines were extended Northwest; Port Townsend saw a decline in population. It had a large port and was frequented by overseas vessels, so shipping of goods from the area was a significant part of the economy. With the decline of the railroads, the economy declined until after the great Depression. The Victorian buildings built during this era remain and many were either maintained or restored.
