The Town of Knox is one of the "hilltowns" in Albany County, along with Berne and Westerlo. The main part of John Boyd Thacher State Park is in Knox.

Albany County DA prosecutes criminal matters in Knox Town Court. Deputy Sheriffs and Park Police may handle their own traffic tickets.
