ABOUT THE AREA
Granby is a town in Oswego County, in the Syracuse metro area and was formed from Hannibal, April 20, 1818. It lies on the West bank of Oswego River, in the S.W. part of the county. Oswego River flows through a valley from 30 to 60 feet below the general level of the town; within this town it has a fall of 40 feet. Lake Nea-tah-wan-ta, near the center of the East part, is about 1 mi. in diameter. It lies about 25 feet above the river at the head of the falls. The streams are Ox Creek, Six Mile Creek, and the outlet of Nea-tah-wan-ta Lake. The population, at the time of the 2000 census, was ballpark of 7K. The growth of the village has been principally at two points, opposite the two bridges, which lead to Fulton. In these localities a population of over a thousand have made their homes, and the building of new houses, especially in the upper part of the village, is continually going forward. The manufacturing establishments are tannery, which is in the northwest part of the village and a paper mill that is above the lower bridge. There are hotels, shops, restaurants and two schoolhouses. The other communities in Granby are Battle Island State Park, which is on the west bank of the Oswego River, in the northeast part of the town, Bowen’s Corners a hamlet southwest of Fulton on Route 176, Granby Center a hamlet in the north part of the town and is west of Fulton on Route 3, West Granby a former community in the town. Lake Neatahwanta, which flows on west of the City of Fulton.
