Palermo existed from Volney in 1832 and was named after the city in Sicily. Palermo recorded a population of 3686 in the 2000 census and is now rated one of the growing town in Oswega County. Palermo is historically known as traditional town with history of enormous religious activities but, is now also famous for its sports museums and hall of fame in N.Y. for boxing, baseball, soccer and cycling.
