COMMENTS
The Walla Walla Superior Court is divided into two departments each with its own presiding judge.
ABOUT THE AREA
In the early 1800's the Canadian North West Fur Company and the Pacific Fur Company were first to settle in the area. They were followed by the Hudson's Bay Company people. The North West Fur Company built Fort Walla Walla half a mile from the mouth of the Walla Walla River on the east bank of the Columbia River. Supplies were packed through here and up to the newly opened mines in Idaho. Now Walla Walla is the largest city in the county. The fort is located within the military reservation that served as Fort Walla Walla from the 1850s to the early 1900s. It has a pioneer settlement complete with original buildings including a cabin built in the 1850s, the Union School built in 1867, a jail from Prescott, a barbershop, a railroad depot from Eureka Flats, and many other buildings. In addition there are five exhibit halls filled with hundreds of exhibits featuring horse-era agriculture, pioneer life, and military history.
