Dayton proclaims to all that it is a city with virtually no crime, no traffic, and breathtaking scenery all around. This area was originally explored by Lewis and Clark who camped on the Patit Creek just east of Dayton in 1806. By 1872 the town had been layed out, named, and a post office established. In the 1880's, an immigrant from Germany established a Brewery, a malt house, the saloon and lodge hall and a theater. There's certainly a sense of history here with a fully restored courthouse and depot which are the oldest in the state. There are 117 buildings on the National Historic Register in this city including the couthouse.
