ABOUT THE AREA
Of the 7700 residents in this Texas panhandle county, 60% reside in urban areas and 40% reside in rural areas. Of the 900 square miles of territory, less than 1% is comprised of water. But Swisher is considered a dry county not because of this dearth of water, but because of its prohibition of alcohol sales. Should the residents desire to purchase a bottle, they have the options of Interstate 27, U.S. Highway 87, and State Highway 86 if they embark upon a quest for a drink.
