ABOUT THE AREA
This dry community of almost 700 square miles of extension was founded in the early 1850s. Framed by Hopkins, Franklin, Camp, Upshur, Smith, Van Zandt, and Rains Counties; this land served by Quitman City as its county seat is connected by US Highway 69, US Highway 80, State Highway 37, and State Highway 154. Home of Little Sandy National Wildlife Refuge; this territory reporting a population density of more than 55 people per square mile has a median household income of $32900 and a per capita income of more than $17700.
