With such a large area the Salem Municipal Court has 7-9 judges to cover the large number of cases resulting from the enforcement of municipal ordinances, state statutes and miscellaneous matters as provided by ordinance.

Salem, the state capital of Oregon, is one of the largest cities in Oregon with a population exceeding 140,000 and an area of over 47 square miles. It is home to Willamette University a 4 year Liberal Arts college with a College of Law, a School of Education and an MBA program. The Oregon State Fair, held here each year, was started in the late 1850's with a gathering of the Oregon Fruitgrowers Association. The fair is held on a fifty acre site with several buldings which feature livestock exhibits, horse shows, Merchandise and food booths and an ampitheatre featuring musical performances.
