Lori Ellicott is the Court Administrator (973-427-5555 ext 253) and Scott Mooney is the Public Defender.

There are several theories as to where Hawthorne got it's name from. One theory is that it was named after the famous author Nathaniel Hawthorne. The other theory suggests that the name might have been derived from the thorny vegetation called hawthorne, that was found in abundance in this area. The Municipal Complex has the Court and the other Municipal offices under the same roof. The borough has an excellent public library called the Louis Bay Public Library. Parks such as Goffle Book Park, Hofstra Park and Columbia Terrace Park add to the beauty of this town. The Midland Park Shopping Center is located a couple of miles away from the Municipal Court. The town has excellent facilities for senior citizens - one of the things that this organization undertakes is arranging free bus rides for seniors to the shopping malls in and around this area.
