US 30 runs through the town and IS 84 lies along its Northern boder.

Hood river is located along the Columbia river. Although Hood River is known for growing apples, pears, cherries, peaches and other fruits; it has recently become known for something completely different. Because it experiences strong winds it is now known as the wind surfing capital of the world. The surfers can best be seen from Columbia Gorge Sailpark. Each April the Mt. Hood Scenic Railroad begins its trips through the apple and pear orchards in the area. The train consists of circa 1910 railcars and a diesel locomotive and runs along the route of an old fruit train line.
