Once called 'Weerommensa' or "Land of the Grapes', this borough is now called 'Saddle River' and gets it's name from the Saddle River which flows through the borough. The Borough Municipal Building conveniently houses the Health Department, the Court, the Tax Office and a other departments under the same roof. Saddle River proudly boasts of it's homey and charming borough life and it's very high median household incomes. Just recently, Saddle River was ranked 27th among the 100 highest income places in the country. The borough is proud of it's local history. The Saddle River Historian does a great job at collecting and presenting the local history in the form of photographs and artifacts. The borough also has many volunteer groups who engage themselves in the 'Saddle River Garden Club' a community-preserving club, the 'Saddle River Valley Club', a club that comes up with recreational programs for residents and many such other clubs. Saddle River is easily accessible from the Garden State Parkway and Route 17.
