Broward County Court felonies are heard in Room 160, while misdemeanors, speeding tickets, and other lesser infractions are heard in County Court, Room 130. They have civil cases too, but that's not the focus of this website.
State funding for the Broward traffic court magistrate program is up in the air, as of September 2009. A change could slam the criminal court, as the magistrates hear 150,000 cases a year!! Maybe they should just write fewer speeding tickets?
About the area The Fort Lauderdale beach, 2 miles of North-South oriented beach is among the finest in the world and gets plenty of visitors, Floridians as well as others from the states and around the world, each year. Nearby Las Olas Boulevard is the site of many unusual fancy schmancy shops and dining establishments. The city's Holiday Park is the location of sports fields and the Evert Tennis facility, which is highly regarded. The Broward Center for the Performing Arts, located in the vicinity of the courthouse, presents plays and concerts throughout the year.
Judges J. Lazarus heads up the criminal cases in Broward County Court.
Type Of Cases County Court is the main court for the whole county - duh. There's Circuit Court here too.
