A very busy court. Four judges is a lot for a justice court. They have a drug court, which is usually only seen in higher level courts such as County Court or the biggest City Courts. Also has a landlord-tenant part. We're not sure if any other justice court has "parts" as those are more often seen in Supreme Courts. Statistics indicate over 28,000 cases in 2005, including over 20,000 traffic violations, not including DWI and traffic misdemeanors.
We always wonder about a court facility that also houses the police. Does that tend to bias the judges in favor of the police? But don't worry. Most judges are biased in favor of the police anyway. We might be a little cynical. Judge Johns should review the spelling in his bio on the town's website. We hope he's honorary and not honary. :-) |
About the area |
Clarkstown contains the communities and hamlets of Bardonia, Centenary, Brownsell Corners, Central Nyack, Congers, Germonds, Nanuet, New City, New City Park, Nyack, Upper Nyack, Spring Valley, Oakbrook, Valley Cottage, Mount Ivy and Lake Lucille. High Tor State Park, Rockland Lake State Park and Nyack Beach State Park are also located within the city limits. The Town of Clarkstown was involved in a landmark case that went before the US Supreme Court in 1994, regarding waste management and interstate commerce. The Justices ruled 7-3 that Clarkstown’s ""Flow Control"" ordinance requiring all haulers to deposit waste at a private transfer station in return for deeding over the station to the city in five years violated the Commerce Clause of the Constitution.
