| Comments | Court is a rather small facility sharing space with the police station. Despite the bias that would seem to create, the judge seems pretty fair. While it's tight, it's not unpleasant. You enter the courtroom through something almost like an airlock. Attorneys sit in the green chairs on the other side of the room, and should get there a little early if possible to conference with the DA before court starts - she will have little time for you as the proceedings keep her busy. But they'll still find a way to get you through. |
| About the area | Hudson, named after both the River which it sits on and the explorer, is the county seat for Columbia County. It was a main whaling and trading port until early in the 1800s. Many merchants from Nantucket, Marthas Vineyard and Providence settled here. It lost a close race to become the NY State Capital. Once a bustling, beautiful port, decades of urban blight and crime have deteriorated much of its former charm. There is hope of renewal and revitalization being planned. Some nice restaurants too, including the somewhat famous Mexican Radio - not bad. |
| Hours of Operation | 8-3 (maybe 4pm) but not on holidays (duh) |
| Judges | The Honorable Barry Sack is the City Court Judge (through the end of 2008) and Hon. William Cranna is acting Judge. |
| Prosecutors | Columbia County DAs office - seems like someone luckily escaped from Rensselaer County and found a happier place in Hudson. |
| Type Of Cases | Some traffic cases and perhaps too many drug-related crimes. Drug court too. |
