The village is serious about policing, with a "police reserve" but they still suffered a rash of burglaries in the first quarter of 2007. They think theyve got the bad guy now. He was probably annoyed that the most famous person from the village is that Danza actor guy from Taxi. Tried to be more famous, but didnt make it. Sorry buddy.

Judges: Honorable Jon Mostel is Village Court Judge and Hon. Jerome Reisman is Associate Justice.
About the area: The village of Great Neck is primarily a NYC suburb on LIs north shore. Settled in the 1640s and incorporated in the early 20s. Population closing in on 10K. While this is the village of Great Neck, there are a number of other villages that are considered a part of the area known as Great Neck. This can be a bit confusing but the locals seem to understand. The US Merchant Marine Academy is located in nearby Kings Point. Great Neck was originally called "Madnans Neck" and was settled not long after the Pilgrims landed on Plymouth Rock in the late 17th Century. Jazz Age novelist, F. Scott Fitzgerald lived in Great Neck and set his famous novel, "The Great Gatsby" in this area. Other famous residents include Sid Caesar, George M Cohan, Kenneth Cole, Francis Ford Coppola, WC Fields, The Marx Brothers, Whitey Ford, Paul Newman, Eugene ONeill, Herman Wouk, automobile founders George Dodge and Walter Chrysler and many others. The whole Great Neck name thing probably has nothing to do with body parts and more to do with geography.

Many people from NYC would bring there families and stay for the summer. It was a way of getting out the city and being able to learn about rural areas. These resorts provided all kinds of activities such as dancing lessons, swimming, craft workshops, hiking and many others. Although many people have stopped coming to the resorts, there are still others who make them an annual vacation. In the surrounding areas you will find many camps where people send their kids for the summer. These camps are luxury places where kids learn sailing, swimming, crafts, tennis, and many other activities. Although the attendance to these resorts has tapered many people still remember the Catskills as a place for vacation. Even during the fall season you can find tourists enjoying the fall foliage and the beautiful landscape.

It is believed that the French settlers named this town Bayonne after the city of Bayonne in France. Other theories suggest that the town might have gotten this name because it was Bay-on meaning literally on the shores of two bays. The famous Bayonne bridge was once considered to be the longest steel arch bridge in the world. The new river George Bridge built in 1978 displaced it from its first position. The town has 10 elementary schools, many parks and recreation centers, several shopping centers, medical facilities and private gyms. Bayonnes population is far more diverse than its neighbors, with each group contributing something to the towns present-day cultural character. Bayonnes southern border is closer to Staten Island than any piece of land in the state of New York.
