Located on the North Shore, Gloucester is historically known for its fishing industry. Many working families are part of the fishing companies that have been in Gloucester since the 1600s. Gloucester was created on Cape Ann where people like Howard Blackburn became fishermen. The area is known for its great noreaster storms that come off the ocean. In the 2000 film A Perfect Storm, the fishermen in the area are shown trying to save themselves and their boat. The area is known by many painters, musicians, and writers. The ocean is their inspiration and many paintings, books, and songs have been created about the area. The area was also important in ship building as the first schooner was built there. Gorton fishermen, which is a popular brand of seafood was also created here in Gloucester. Great area to learn the history of ocean fishing. Some gorgeous views here too!
