East Boston is a great area of the city to live. There have been many measures taken in recent years to ensure safety, access to good transportation, and more businesses have been established. The waterfront area has been struggling because of zoning laws but with the help of Boston officials, housing has seen an upsurge. East Boston has a new tunnel connecting them to the main part of Boston and some of the other tunnels offer discounted rates on tolls. Lower prices for housing is also a benefit to living there. Some people find this area too loud because of the noise pollution from Logan Airport but people have found ways to bring the noise down. Working with the airport and East Boston officials has been beneficial to the neighborhood. Also, a great family feel to the area is a draw and heightened police surveillance helps keep gang crime down.
