Come visit Shepherdstown and you will be walking in the oldest town in West Virginia. Many of the buildings in the town were erected before the Revolutionary War. Visit the Shepherdstown museum at the Entler Hotel and you can get a glimpse of the half-scale replica of the steamboat owned by a colleague of George Washington and the first man to pilot a steam-powered vessel. Several plays are presented in July of each year at the Contemporary American Theater festival at Sheperd university. The university, located in this city, is a state supported institution which offers Bachelor degrees in liberal arts, business administration, teacher education, the social and natural sciences, and other areas which are career-oriented. The school contributes much to the city with its courses in noncredit continuing education and its programs in art, music, theater, athletics and other areas of public interest which are open to all.
