SR 43 comes into town, makes two sharp turns and leaves again.

It's in this town, next to the Smoky Hill river, that the first public school kindergarten in the state of Kansas was established. Layed out and populated as a town around 1872; it was 6 years before Enterprise was incoporated. The city park is named America's Park from the middle name of the woman who donated the land for the park. In addition to playground the park has shelter houses for picnics and a native stone building. The city has the unique distinction of having one of the saloons, Schilling's, smashed by Carrie Nation, the female temperance leader.
