US 24 runs on the North side of Glen Elder and is accessible from every major North-South street in town.

The first settlers to the area arrived around the middle of 1869, but did not remain. About one year later settlers did establish themselves in the area and named a postmaster. Glen Elder is located at the Northeast corner of Waconda lake and next to the Glen Elder State Park and Wildlife Area. From Glen Elder it is easy to access the lake's swimming, camping, boating, hunting, and fishing areas. The wildlife area, with approximately 13,000 acres of land and close to 12.500 acres of water, offers many opportunities for hunting and fishing. The city has its own Statue of liberty. A replica of the wecoming figure, donated by a local resident, is located in the center of the town park.
