ABOUT THE AREA
Ridgeley is on the Potomac river and is located across the river from Cumberland, Maryland. Around 1748
George Washington surveyed land in the area of Ridgeley. Fort Sellers was built on the surveyed area and was part of a system of frontier defenses against Indian raids. The city now has a population of less than 700 living in an area of just over one quarter of a square mile and has seen a significant drop in people since 2000.
