| About the area |
The well known Russell Medical Center, located here, has a cancer center, a rehabilitation wing and 50 physicians on staff encompassing 25 medical specialties. The Battle of Horseshoe Bend took place in this area in 1814. Horseshoe Bend National Military Park, covering over 2000 acres, is dedicated to the memory of U.S. Soldiers and Creek Nation Indians who died in this battle. Exhibits at the visitor center and museum depict the period of the battle and explain the equipment used by the soldiers and Creek Indians.
