Norfork District Court is one of the state district courts in Baxter county. SR 5 and SR 177 meet in the Eastern part of Norfork while SR 341 crosses the Northernmost part of town.
About the area
Norfolk, located at the mouth of the Great North fork of the White river, has been known as Liberty and Devero through its over 160 years of existence. As Liberty it was a busy river port and starting point for settlers bound for inland settlements. The railroad's coming gave impetus to the growth of the town with new industries, businesses and homes being built each day. The town was then known as Devero until around 1907 when a town plot was created and the town incorporated as Norfork. Creation of the Norfork National Fish Hatchery, in the 1950's, which raises rainbow, brown and cutthroat trout has given rise to the town occasionally being called the Trout Fishing Capital of the World. On a hill overlooking the point where the White and North Fork Rivers meet there is two-story log structure which is the oldest public building in Arkansas. It is known as the Jacob Wolf House and was built around 1829 to serve as first permanent courthouse for Izard County in Arkansas Territory.
