About the area |
The land on which part of Gravette sits was granted to a settler by President Zachary Taylor around 1849. Around 1891 a merchant moved his store from nearby Nebo to this city and when the Kansas City, Pittsburg and Gulf railroad was being built he signe a part of his land as a right of way. The historic Kindley House, circa 1849, houses the Gravette Historical museum. The exhibits in this museum are items related to the fourth-ranking flying ace in WWI Captain Field E. Kindley , natural history displays, a photo gallery of graduating classes from Gravette High School from the 1920's and on and a host of items related to Gravetteâs past. The museum also provides a traveling exhibit at Gravette city hall, which is changed monthly, and usually consists of one of the collections owned by the museum. |
