About the area |
Alpena lies right on the border with Carroll county. Alpena is one of the towns founded by the Missouri-North Arkansas Railroad in Boone County. It benefited from the decline of Carrollton, a town located to the West of Alpena, when some of that town's buildings were disassembled, moved, and reassembled in Alpena. The Mountain Meadows Massacre monument is dedicated to the families from Arkansas who were part of the the BakerâFancher emigrant wagon train, to California, who were subject to a series of attacks by Mormons in Utah and a massacre in the fall of 1857. The Alpena Pass pavilion located between the welcome center, in city hall, and Flashmarket has covered and uncovered picnic tables. |
