About the area |
Heber Springs was originally a health resort when it was founded in the 1850's and its easy to see why with its access to lush waters and greenery. It was first called Sugar Loaf. The city has easy access to Greers Ferry lake which was built by the U.S. Corps of Engineers and is over 31,000 acres in size. There is a Toytrain museum in this city. The museum has a collection of toy trains and train related memorabilia gathered over a fifty year period by one of the citizens of Heber Springs and its founder. In the downstairs area there is a setup which includes a rail line surrounding a miniature town complete with hundreds of miniature people and buildings. The upstairs floor holds hundreds of train memorabilia items with a track running around the length of the room. As the train runs on this track it passes through miniature worlds. The annual Springfest takes place each April on Main street and at Spring park. The fest has crafters booths, kids' activities, live entertainment and lots of good food. Competitors in the Cupcake contest and art work vie for the prizes awarded at the end. There is also a show of Classic cars around the Cleburne County Courthouse Square and the Mountain Top Volkswagen show in Spring Park. |
