This district court is located in the Southern district of Lonoke county generally considered to be South of Schafer road. IS 40 and US 70 run through Carlisle and both cross SR 13 in the Western part of town.
About the area
Although founded around 1872, people did not start moving to the area until around 1886. However the first plantings of this crop did not take place until 1904, when a resident of Carlisle during a trip to Louisiana noticed rice farms in that state and returned with rice seed he had purchased there. The big advantage he saw was that in Arkansas the fast growing tall grass in the Grand Prairie left plenty of decaying plant matter needed to make the soil fertile for growing the rice. The first crop produced over 5,000 bushels of rice from from 70 acres and the farmers in Carlisle realized that there was money to be made from farming rice. The Carlisle Rice Milling Company built the first rice mill in town around 1908. One of two Works Progress Administration projects built in town during the Great Depression was a gymnasium which now serves as the community center. The center has large meeting rooms which can accommodate group events and a hall available with potable seats for shows.
