Clarendon County Court is the county court of Monroe county and is located in the same building as the circuit court.
About the area
Because of its position along the White river and near the Cache river; European settlers came to the area before 1800. The town was then called Mouth of the Cache and by 1828 had a ferry and post office. At incorporation, around 1859, the city was renamed Clarendon. It was burned to the ground by Union forces during the Civil War but was rebuilt and by 1890 was a cotton center and industrial port. It also saw the establishment of the first stave and barrel factory in the state. At the time, the city's Pearl market attracted many customers from throughout the United States. In the Spring of 1927, the city was again visited by destruction when the levee along the White River broke and the entire town was flooded. However the citizens of Clarendon would not let the city die and in the late 1930's a new levee system was completed which has been successful in protection against floods.
