Visit the Crater of Diamonds State park and you might come away richer. This is the only diamond mine in the world where you can search and keep what you find. The first diamonds were found on this property around 1906. To make sure there are diamonds to be found, the close to 38 acre open field is plowed from time to time to bring bring them and other gemstones to the surface. Every June the Diamond festival is held in Murfreesboro Courthouse Square to celebrate the discovery of the gem here. The event has lots of live musicaal entertainment and other performances as well as Barbecue, funnel cakes, ice cream, shaved ice, a rock climbing wall, mechanical bull riding, slides and rides for the kids. |
