About the area |
The Rock Island Depot, which is on the National Register of Historic Places, has been restored in all its glory. A caboose rests on the grounds next to the tracks and an old hand car sits on the tracks. In front of the depot, which was built around 1915 and is of the Craftsman/Mission style with half-timbering and clay-tile roof, there is an unusual searchlight train order signal. The Kocourek and Benish hardware store founded around 1892 and now an antiques store is the oldest continuously operated business in town.
