About the area |
Herman Dierks park has facilities for five sports. Located in the park are a Little League baseball and softball field, outdoor basketball courts, a lighted walking trail with benches and illuminated tennis courts. Other amenities offered are a shelter house pavilion and playground equipment. Also located within the park is the Herman Dierks Community building. Land for the park was a gift from the Dierks Lumber and Coal company and the family owners of the company. Volunteers from the community cleared the land to make it possible for the facilities to be built. To celebrate the birthplace of the country music singer, Collin Raye, the city created the Collin Raye Birthplace museum, in this park, in a two room block building that was once lived in by members of Rayeâs family and holds an annual Collinfest in early May at De Queen High Schoolâs Leopard Stadium. The museum has on exhibit artifacts from Rayeâs music career as well as souvenirs from previous concerts, some of his guitars and a few of the vests, associated with him, which he wore during his shows.
