Augusta District Court is a district court of the Woodruff County district courts. If you are driving through Augusta, you probably can use US 64, US 64 Business, SR 33, SR 33 Business or SR 339.
About the area
Around 1820, a pioneer paddling down the White river in his canoe stopped at the site of a Chickasaw Indian village. He was so struck by the idyllic location that he took squatters rights. He did not hold on to the land too long; selling it to a settler two years later. Other settlers from the Eastern states, also appreciating the area, began to stay in this place now called Chickasaw Crossing. Around 1840 the town was established and its name changed to Augusta. When steamboats on the White river, traveling from Memphis and New Orleans with a variety of goods, began stopping at this city's position, a natural river landing, the city prospered. Around 1860, the city became the county seat of Woodruff county, however the city suffered a great deal of destruction during the Civil War. The citizens rebuilt the city and in a few short years it prospered once again.
