About the area

Durango came into the picture after the Rio Grande and the Denver Railway was laid way back in 1879. The main idea of setting up Durango was to make the transport of gold and silver easier. Even Durango got very rich in the gold and silver transport business. As a mark of respect the historic train that ran for 128 years has been retained by the city and is run even today. It travels from Durango to Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad.
