About the area

Arcadia is the county seat of DeSoto county. It was virtually destroyed during Hurricane Charlie. It enjoys a low population but also has a low per capita income. The main contribution to the economy is agricultural with a prime product being Watermelons; which is a primary reason for the annual Watermelon festival. The city is also the site of the annual DeSoto County fair and several rodeo events. The city is serviced by a moderately large municipal airport.
