About the area

As you might well imagine Jefferson County was named for Thomas Jefferson. So what better name for the county seat than Monticello; Jefferson's homestead (from another state of course). It's the only county in Florida which stretches from Georgia to the Gulf of Mexico. Monticello has an extremely small population. It is populated by many antebellum homes; a feature found throughout Jefferson County. The only public high school, middle school and elementary school are located in Monticello.
