About the area

Palatka is a town whose main industries have long gone away. The waters flowing from the shores of the St. Johns river thousands of years ago formed the ravine that is now the main feature of the nearby Ravine Gardens State park. In the 1930's the Works Progress Administration planted gardens in the area of the ravine. These now exist as formal gardens. The addition of a trail system and a paved road which winds around the ravine and is useable by bicyclists and motorists completes the park.
