Newton District Court serves as the district court of Jasper county in the Fifth judicial district of Iowa. IS 80 cuts Jasper county in half while crossing SR 14, SR 117 and SR 224 and running parallel to US 6 part of the way through the county.

About the area

Starting out as Newton City around 1846 with a name change one year later the city was incorporated ten years after that. At its start lots were being sold through the town. Throughout the years the city has seen such businesses as cigar factories, manufacturers of patent medicines and ant poison, advertising specialty companies, manufacturers of farm equipment and home appliances. Eventually it became home to the Maytag Corporation. For an an exciting spectator sport in this town there are the Newton Kart Klub races at their track from April to October. Bikers come here for the Thunder nites taking place on the square on four different occasions between May and August. There is the softer side of life of life here in Newton as well as evidenced by the "Evenings at the Bowl" Summer Concert series held at Maytag Bowl on Thursday nights from June through August where you can bring a chair and enjoy a relaxing evening.
