| About the area |
Water Valley is home to the Casey Jones Railroad Museum. After the Water Valley depot abandoned by the Illinois Central Railroad when rail service was discontinued in the 1980's; the depot began to deteriorate. The Water Valley Lions Club restored the Water Valley Depot to turn it into the Railroad museum. A caboose was then obtained from Centrailia, Illinois, and brought to the depot. After Steps and a connecting deck were built between the depot, caboose and banana car; railroad items, photographs and documents of historical interest were put on display in the museum. The museum hosts a Hobo Gathering every year in April
