Scobey Justice Court

Scobey Court lies within Montana's Fifteenth judicial district. SR 5, SR 13 and SR 248 meet in Scobey. SR 251 and SR 511 meet SR 5 in the Eastern part of Daniels county.

One of the first settlers and landowners in the county started a settlement along the Poplar River establishing a post office and began building a townsite with a blacksmith shop, livery stable, hotel, general store, implement dealer and saloon. When the Great Northern arrived in the the area it chose as its townsite, at the end of the line, a site approximately 1 1/2 miles Northeast of the original Scobey townsite. Eventually, just about everyone living in the Scobey townsite on the river bottom and its business buildings were moved Northeast to form the new Scobey. However the city benefited from its new location so that by 1924 and for the two years following, Scobey was the largest primary wheat market in the United States. Although the city suffered during the drought and great depression of the 1930's; it rebounded in the following decades because of its agricultural production. Although Scobey is the largest city in the county, its not large by any means with about 1,000 people living in an area of one square mile. A little to the West of Scobey you will find the Daniels County museum & Pioneer town. There are over 30 historic buildings here restored to represent a town in the early 1900's. Also on display are county archives and a collection of antique cars, tractors and machinery. The Pioneer Days celebration held here during the last weekend in June provides entertainment at the Dirty Shame Show, family oriented shows featuring the Dirty Shame Belles and the Dixieland Band. Also for your enjoyment and sustenance there is a breakfast of pancakes and sausage, an antique car and tractor parade, children's street games and an art show.
