Nested adjacent to Pitt, Nash, Wilson, Martin, and Halifax Counties; this community of almost 510 square miles of extension was established in the 1740s from puzzle pieces of Bertie County. Edgecombe county was named for English nobleman Richard Edgecome and it is located in the Rocky Mount metro area with an estimated population of 54700 residents residing on the fourteen townships of this land including Lower Town Creek, Tarboro (county seat), Deep Creek, Swifh Creek, and Sparta. Some of the cities in this Member of the regional Upper Coastal Plain Council of Governments are Pinetops, Princeville, Rocky Mount, Conetoe, and Leggett.
