About the area |
Charming and humble could be two of the attributes of this community home of more than 32100 people and irrigated by the Nantahala River. Established in the 1820s, this land of almost 520 square miles of extension got its name after Nathaniel Macon, who represented North Carolina in the United States House of Representatives. Macon County is a very active member of the Southwestern Commission divided into eleven townships sharing frontiers with Rabun County in Georgia and Clay, Cherokee, Swain, Graham, and Jackson Counties. Some of the settlements in this territory include Iotla, Franklin, Smithbridge, and Ellijay.
