The biggest criminal court in the biggest county in the Capital Region. Housed in a new court facility with extremely high security, perhaps overdone. Make sure you're prepared for Court, because a couple of these judges can get tough on the lawyers if they're not ready. As it should be at this level. So far as we know, there's no sister relationship with the Albany Municipal Court, nor the Albany Magistrate Court, both in Albany, Georgia. |

About the area |
Albany County has about 250,000 people. The suburbs tend to be fairly wealthy (compared to most of the rest of the area), but there are some working class communities and some ghetto-like communities in the City of Albany. The east edge of the county runs along the Hudson River. Albany is almost urban, while the southern and western edges of the county become quite rural in parts. The county legislature has been working a number of anti-gun laws of questionable constitutionality, headed up by Phil Steck. |
Hours of Operation |
9 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday. |
Judges |
Hon. Thomas A. Breslin (285-8769) & Hon. Stephen W. Herrick (285-8759). Supreme Court Justices Lamont & Teresi seem to handle a lot of cases. All judges are very bright and know the law. |
Prosecutors |
Albany County District Attorney's office. |
Type Of Cases |
Felonies, along with some minor civil matters. Albany County Court sees a lot of drug cases from the various police task forces that conduct never-ending sting operations in the City of Albany. |
