About the area |
One of the 5 boroughs of New York City, The Bronx was originally called Keskeskeck by the Native American Siwanoy tribe. The name of Bronx originates from Jonas Bronck, a Swedish-Dutch sea captain who purchased land from the Siwanoy in 1639. The area that is now The Bronx was originally part of Westchester County. Although it is the Borough of The Bronx, it is just âBronx Countyâ within New York State. It is the only mainland borough of New York City; the Harlem River separates it from the Borough of Manhattan. Home of the New York Yankees - the Bronx Bombers. |
