About the area |
Cayuga County's total population is approximately 85,000. The largest proportion of this population resides within the center of the County and includes the City of Auburn with a population of about 30,000. Aside from Auburn, there are 23 towns and 9 villages in the County. Cayuga County's land area of 700 square miles is the heart of the Finger Lakes Region. Owasco Lake is in the center of the county, Cayuga Lake forms part of the western boundary, Lake Ontario is on the northern border, and Skaneateles Lake is at the eastern border. Cayuga means "people of the wetlands." It is pronounced ka-yu-ga in the Iroquioan Language of the Cayuga people. |
