The name Pharsalia was given after the origin of the early settlers; this event apparently would not be any different how the other towns in Chenango County got named. Pharsalia's Town name hides a unique historical moment which differences it from the other towns in this county; its name was taken from a Roman epic poem about the struggle between of two big history figures as Julius Caesar and Gnaeus Pompeius Magnus. Okay, look ... we think maybe someone lost a bet and that's how the town got named. Or maybe all the other names had been used up in the state? Fortunately, Pharsalia won out over Phallusia. |
