The Town of Washington is named after George Washington, who camped here in Washington's Hollow during the Revolution and is in the central portion of Dutchess county, just northeast of the City of Poughkeepsie. Washington includes the villages and hamlets of Lithgow, Millbrook, Littlerest, Mabbettsville, Millbrook Heights, Shunpike, South Millbrook and Washington's Hollow.
